Designing augmented reality data visualization
Traditionally, our sales, marketing, client and production engineers are reading well production datasets on Microsoft Excel because it’s a tool that everyone has on their computers. However, they are reading data in a way that’s hard for the brain to visualize in 3D, and it is difficult to compare and figure out the relationship of each well based on these different factors.
Our Production Subject Matter Expert came to me and asked to experiment with this concept. We were whiteboarding and sketching out our ideas, and this was how the idea happened.
Augmented Reality (AR) well production allows users to visualize and interact with well production information in a live direct or indirect 4D view of a physical environment on a map. It can be used for meetings, collaboration, analyzing the data, etc.
User opens the AR Well Production app and places it on a physical table. User is viewing and analyzing production wells on a map. The blue color is representing water, and the gold is representing oil, the size of them is dependant on the data.
When the user says, “show Subsurface”, the map will move up to show perforation, horizontal and vertical wells. The user can also interact with them by saying hide/show to the object, as you can see the Voice Commands panel for the commands, so the user knows what are the interactions they have here.
